In the Netflix catalog, there are some good suggestions if you are looking for plots full of sexual tension and explicit content, which promise more mature and breathtaking stories. The national feature film O Lado Bom de Ser Traída, and the originals Jogo Justo and Mea Culpa, are great examples of this.

Starting this list like that, we have Ashes. This Turkish novel promises to stir the public’s emotions, mainly due to its intriguing ending. Here, the plot, directed by Erdem Tepegöze (In the Shadows) and starring Funda Eryiğit (Cornered), tells the story of a rich woman who, after finding a manuscript from her husband, sees her life turned upside down.

Even with its popularity among fans of hot films, Turkish film production did not please the specialized press that much. The negative reception can be seen on aggregators, such as IMDb, where it has a 4.2 rating, and on Rotten Tomatoes, where it only received 29% approval from experts.

2. The Good Side of Being Betrayed (2023)

Based on the book of the same name by author Sue Hecker, pseudonym of Brazilian writer Débora Gimenez, the plot of the film follows a young woman in love with her fiance and who, on the eve of her wedding, discovers that she was being betrayed by him. Revolted, she decides to turn things around and embarks on an intense romance with a mysterious judge. Directed by Diego Freitas (After the Universe), the project stars Giovanna Lancellotti (Ricos de Amor) and Leandro Lima ( Terra e Paixão ).

Despite being one of the standout productions in the Top 10 of Red streaming during the week of release, O Lado Bom de Ser Traída divided opinions between critics and the public. On the IMDb aggregator, for example, it reached a score of 4.1, while on Rotten Tomatoes it achieved 89% audience approval.

3. Lady Chatterley’s Lover (2022)

Another literary adaptation in the area for fans of erotic romance! Inspired by the 1928 book of the same name by English author DH Lawrence, the film stars Emma Corrin ( The Crown ) and Jack O’Connell (The Money Game). Directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (Giraffada), the plot follows the story of Constance Reid, a young woman who married an English nobleman before the First World War. Unhappy in her marriage, she ends up getting involved in a fiery relationship with one of her husband’s employees.

Betting on hot scenes between the two protagonists of the plot, the romance drama surprised Netflix users due to the explicit content of the period production. On the IMDb aggregator, the production has a score of 6.6 and on RT it has an 86% approval rating from critics, in addition to a “Fresh” seal on the Tomatometer.

4. 365 Days (2020)

365 Days is a Polish erotic romance directed by Barbara Białowąs (Big Love) and Tomasz Mandes (Forbidden Desire). The film is an adaptation of the first book in a trilogy written by Blanka Lipińska. With Anna-Maria Sieklucka (Compulsion) and Michele Morrone (Sirene) in the cast, the plot follows Laura, a sales director who, on a trip to Sicily, is kidnapped by Massimo, a member of the Italian mafia who gives her 365 days to fall in love with him. It is worth remembering that the project still has two other sequels, titled 365 Days: Today and 365 Final Days.

Despite its popularity among Netflix subscribers, 365 Days were not very popular with specialized critics. On IMDb, for example, the film has a rating of 3.3, taking into account 98 thousand considerations. On Rotten Tomatoes, the project achieved the feat of having 0% approval among experts and just 30% among the general public.

5. Mea Culpa (2024)

Looking for scenes full of suspense and lots of sensuality? Then Mea Culpa may be the choice of the moment. Here, the film tells the story of a criminal lawyer who gets involved with one of her clients and needs to choose between her duty and her desires. The cast features names such as singer Kelly Rowland (A Liddle Christmas) and Trevante Rhodes ( Moonlight ). Directed by Tyler Perry (Diary of a Madwoman).

Despite becoming popular among Netflix subscribers, the erotic film was not very popular with specialized critics. Proof of this is the project’s performance on the main aggregators, such as IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, where it received a 4.1 rating and approval from 14% of experts, respectively.

6. Infidelity (2002)

This title here is the oldest on the list, but it is also one of the best. Here, the plot, adapted from the novel The Unfaithful Woman, by Claude Chabrol, follows a couple who live a supposedly happy marriage. However, everything is put to the test when the wife in the relationship becomes involved in an extramarital affair. Directed by Adrian Lyne (Indecent Proposal), the work stars Diane Lane (Under the Tuscan Sun) and Richard Gere ( Pretty Woman ).

Very well received by critics, including a 2003 Oscar nomination in the Best Actress category for Lane, Infidelidade also collects positive performances on aggregators. On IMDb, for example, the American film stands out with a rating of 6.7, while on Rotten Tomatoes it has 50% approval from experts and 68% from the general public.

7. Elisa & Marcela (2019)

And we have queer erotic romance too! In this film, Elisa and Marcela are a lesbian couple who struggle to stay together in 1910, in Galicia. As same-sex unions were not allowed at the time, Elisa forges documents from a deceased relative to pretend to be a man and marry her loved one. The work is directed by Isabel Coixet (Um Amor) and the protagonists are played by Natalia de Molina ( Mão de Ferro ) and Greta Fernández (Apagados).

A Netflix original, the feature film divides opinions regarding its reception by the public and experts. On IMDb, the production has a score of 6.6, based on 5.8 thousand considerations, while on Rotten Tomatoes the Hispanic film only received 44% approval from critics and 50% from the general public.

8. Forbidden Desire (2023)

This Polish melodrama promises to please fans of erotic thrillers with its narrative of fiery love. This is because the plot revolves around an experienced judge who ends up getting involved with a young man from one of her cases. Directed by Tomasz Mandes, the project stars Simone Susinna (365 Days) and Magdalena Boczarska (Trust Me).

The film was popular among Netflix subscribers but did not perform positively among the specialized press. On the IMDb aggregator, for example, the Polish production has a rating of 4 based on 575 considerations and until the publication of this article, the film had not been rated on Rotten Tomatoes.

9. Branquinha (2016)

Branquinha is another erotic thriller on the list. With Morgan Saylor (Homeland) and Brian Marc ( The Good Doctor ) in the cast, the story focuses on a college student who falls in love with a boy soon after meeting him. And between comings and goings, the two begin to enjoy a troubled relationship filled with a lot of sexual tension.

Directed by Elizabeth Wood (Just Sex), the film received mostly positive reviews from film experts. On the other hand, the public didn’t like the work that much. On IMDb, Branquinha has a rating of 5.7, and on Rotten Tomatoes, 70% press approval.

10. Dry Martina (2018)

Focused on addressing themes such as sexuality issues related to female libido, this Argentine film was written and directed by Che Sandoval (I’m Much Better Than You) and the plot follows Matina, a famous singer who, after an unexpected breakup, becomes sexually frigid. But when a half-sister with her boyfriend enters her life, the protagonist will do anything to regain her former sexual flame.

Names like Antonella Costa (Inevitável) and Pedro Campos (Amar Profundo) star in the project. Regarding the film’s repercussions, Dry Martina has a negative performance in terms of the opinion of specialized critics. On IMDb, for example, the production has a rating of 5.8, while on RT only 57% approval from critics.

11. Fair Game (2023)

In this sensual thriller, the plot follows Emily and Luke, a young couple who hide their relationship from their other co-workers. But when an unexpected promotion happens, their relationship is pushed to the limit. Written and directed by Chloe Domont (Forbidden Pleasures), the film stars Phoebe Dynevor ( Bridgerton ) and Alden Ehrenreich ( Oppenheimer ).

All the suspense and sexual tension between the protagonists made Jogo Justo stand out among the public and critics, receiving a very positive reception. On IMDb, the American production has a score of 6.4, based on 37 thousand considerations. On RT, Chloé Domont’s work received 85% approval from critics, as well as a “Fresh” seal on the Tomatometer.

12. Love (2017)

Looking for a good movie to spice up your relationship as a couple? Then the feature film Amar, by director Esteban Crespo (The Mediator) could be the one of the year. Here, the plot, starring María Pedraza ( Elite ) and Pol Monen (Voyage Among Strangers), follows young Laura and Carlos, who love each other as if each day together was truly their last. However, a year later, the two are faced with only the memory of this great first love.

With a more youthful feel to its plot, the film, despite having a good premise, was not very popular with the public or specialized critics. Proof of this is the negative performance of the Spanish feature film on the main aggregators, such as IMDb and RT, for example, where it has a rating of 5.1 and a general public approval rating of just 37%, respectively.

13. Bonus: Dark Desire (2020)

Last but not least, a Netflix original series with Rebelde star Maite Perroni and Alejandro Speitzer (Somebody’s Gotta Die) in the main cast. The Mexican series follows a lawyer who is certain that her husband is cheating on her, so she decides to spend a weekend at a friend’s house. But it is there that she meets a man with whom she has an intense passion.

With Leticia López Margalli (Three Lives) as showrunner, the production has only two seasons and a total of 33 episodes. Regarding the repercussions of the red streaming work, the project has an average performance. On IMDb, it has a rating of 6.5, based on 9.3 thousand considerations. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series received 60% approval from critics.
