Based on a French novel, Planet of the Apes, the first feature movie in the franchise of the same name, hit theaters in 1968. The Planet of the Apes franchise has a total of nine movies, divided into a main series of five feature movies, a single remake from 2001, and a reboot trilogy started in 2011. The history and divisions of the franchise
The first movie in the Planet of the Apes franchise follows an astronaut and his crew as they awaken after years of hibernation and find themselves lost on a planet dominated by intelligent, talking apes. In this place, humans act like wild animals, do not have the ability to speak, and are enslaved by monkeys, who have built their society.
With unforgettable scenes, which made the movie one of the most important in the history of cinema, the plot gained four more sequels, all released throughout the 70s. This original series is made up of the following movies:

- Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971)

In 2001, director Tim Burton released a remake of the original 1968 movie in the franchise. Also called Planet of the Apes, it starred Mark Wahlberg, with Helena Bonham Carter in the cast.

Planet of the Apes on TV
The success of Planet of the Apes during the 70s was so resounding that, in addition to cinema, the franchise also ended up on TV. In 1974, the live-action series Planet of the Apes was released on CBS, which featured actor Roddy McDowall, also present in the original 1968 movie, in its cast. In Brazil, its 14 episodes are currently available on the Oldflix platform.
In addition, in 1975, the production Back to the Planet of the Apes was also launched on TV, a cartoon that had only 13 episodes, directed and co-produced by Doug Wildey (Jonny Quest).
New projects
However, anyone who thinks the Planet of the Apes franchise is not looking at new projects is mistaken. 20th Century Studios is already working on another movie in the universe, which will be directed by Wes Ball ( Maze Runner ) and is scheduled for release in 2023 or 2024.
Although details about its script or what kind of connection the feature movie will have with the previous movies have not yet been revealed, it is already known that the title will have a script written by Josh Friedman (Terminator: Dark Fate).
